Sweet Iron is a material that emits a slightly sweet taste to the horse as soon as the mouthpiece comes into contact with saliva. The surface begins to rust slightly, which also causes the horse to lather more and accept the bit better. For the double-jointed mouthpieces, we use copper inserts, which have a sweeter taste from the outset, are softer, and therefore warmer, so the horse doesn't get a cold bit in its mouth.
Sweet iron mouthpieces can show signs of wear more quickly than stainless steel bits because sweet iron has a surface coating that is significantly softer than other types of metal.
